Animal Shelters Need Our Help
As the days go by, more and more animals are being abandoned at shelters by owners who are ignorant and fearful. People all over are surrendering their 'beloved' pets because they're afraid they can transmit the Coronavirus. Which is ABSOLUTELY not true. Yes, dogs can contract the disease; however, they cannot re-transmit it to humans. This ignorance is going to kills hundreds, if not thousands of dogs, cats, and other animals people are surrendering. Personally, I don't see how anyone could care for a creature only to abandon it for no real reason, but I digress.
This being said, animal shelters are overwhelmed. Shelters, on a normal day, have very limited funds, as most are only run by donations and volunteers, have limited room and not enough fosters. Not to mention, many dogs deemed 'unadoptable' simply because of their species, are put down every day. Now more than ever, shelters need our help.
If you don't have time, which lets be honest who doesn't now a days in our quarantine, a monetary donation is still amazing. I am a bit cynical, however, and don't know where that money goes. So, I like to donate actual food or supplies I know they need. When my cat died 2 years ago, I vowed for every Christmas, I would donate a case of cat food to shelters. I just hope others can help me do this.
List of things shelters ALWAYS need -
Laundry Soap
Dish Soap
Bleach
Paper Towels
Dog Food
Cat Food
Towels
Dog Toys
Crates
Yes, I know many things like paper good and bleach are impossible to get. But, if you've hoarded and stocked up like most of this country, you have enough to share. Even just one roll of your pack can do so much work. Now, I know SO many people are out of work, and can't afford to make donations like this, which I absolutely understand. However, as I said earlier, they always need volunteers. Volunteer your free time, and as of now, a LOT of shelters are begging for foster families. Because if these shelters need to close, these animals have no where to go.
Also, coupons are a huge area of being able to save money. I've collected several links to my favorite app and coupon website
COUPONS.COM
Coupons.com is a website where you can print many different types of coupons. They have several for pet food.
TARGET APP ANDROID
TARGET APP IPHONE
The target app is personally my favorite savings app. It's got MANY different categories, and specifically one for pets. They offer manufacturer coupons, and target percent off coupons.
FIND A SHELTER
Lastly, if you want to make a monetary donation or take some supplies to a shelter, you need to find one This is the ASPCA website to donate or find shelters, volunteer, foster and so forth.
However, if you live around me, (Tampa Bay Area) I recommend the Tampa Human Society. That's where we got both Jack and Trixie, and they are a phenomenal facility. Or there's one on Starkey Road in Largo. And so many more, please, even if it's just a dollar or two, help these poor animals out.
